Local Man Is Remembered In Memorial Event
Churchill Retirement Living is holding a memorial event at its retirement development Worthington Lodge in Hythe, Kent on Thursday 2nd April from 11.30am to remember local man, Percy Hollands who passed away at the end of last year.
Born in 1922 in the village of Minster near Ramsgate, Percy lived all of his life in Kent. After being called up to join the RAF where he became a Sergeant and got a commission as a Flying Officer, he joined the National Health Service working in Chartham and Canterbury before retiring to Hythe in March 1980.
Percy and his wife Queenie had decided that they wanted to spend their retirement near the sea, countryside and town and settled for Hythe, living in a house in Earlsfield Road for 27 years before deciding that they needed to move to something smaller with less maintenance, as the garden in particular was becoming too much. Percy had seen that Churchill Retirement Living were building a new development close to the town centre and he and Queenie viewed the plans at the local Council Offices, where they chose the two bedroom, ground floor apartment that they wanted. They put their property on the market and had sold it before becoming the first to reserve an apartment at Worthington Lodge. During this time Percy became well known by the Site team, buying a pint of milk and biscuits for them on his way to collect his daily
newspaper. He was regularly there waiting for them when the gates opened at 7.30 in the morning!
Percy had been suffering from ill health for some time and sadly died before the development was finished and they were able to complete on their apartment, however Queenie and her and Percys daughter, Mave were determined that Queenie should fulfil her husbands wishes and move into their apartment, which she did at the beginning of November 2008. Since then she has settled in well and made lots of new friends although Percy is never far from her mind.
Queenie, Mave and the Owners at Worthington Lodge will be joined by Percys family and friends at the memorial event and the Reverend Christine Jefferies from Hythe United Reformed Church where Percy worshipped for several years will be naming a bench in the gardens at Worthington Lodge in memory of Percy.
Churchill Retirement Living is the UKs fastest growing privately owned retirement housebuilder. Its developments can be found in carefully selected locations in the south of England and in the Midlands, all of which offer the very best of local amenities and shopping, together with independence, security and 24-hour support and help when required.

Communal facilities include an Owners Lounge and Guest Suite, and landscaped gardens. Conveniently placed for all of Hythes amenities, the development is on a level walk to the local shops and services.
