Retirement developments are designed for those wanting to keep their Independence and as a result tend not to have restaurants, canteens or medical facilities on site. They do, however, have a permanent Lodge Manager on site so that there will always be someone to look after the apartment when you are away and someone to take in any deliveries. Many of the best retirement developments also have Guest Suites where family and friends can come and stay.

The Lodge Manager is there to help the Owners and assist them where necessary. Should anything untoward happen they are trained to respond to any emergency and, to that end, each development is typically fitted with an alarm for the Owners to use should they need to. Most developments offer 24 hour emergency care assistance via the alarm system linked to a monitoring centre, which it turn will contact a family member, GP or emergency service if needed.
