What is Retirement Living
Lionel Blair gives us a clue into Retirement Living...
As we get older, many of us begin to feel that our family home is now too big and the constant maintenance is too much like hard work. As a result, thousands of the over 60s in the UK are now choosing to move to specialist retirement developments. I have been finding out exactly what is a retirement development, what the Owners get up to and how completely different they are from what we always used to know as an 'old people's home'.
So where to start?
Put very simply, a retirement development, like those provided by Churchill Retirement Living, are developments of purpose-built retirement apartments in a secure or gated environment with a number of communal facilities. They typically include 20 – 50 individual properties, though more recent ‘retirement villages’ may have 300 or more. Whilst villages tend to be remote from town or city life, most retirement developments are built close to leisure, transport and shopping facilities.
Your own apartment
The accommodation within a retirement development is usually, but not exclusively, one or two bedroom apartments. They each have their own front door, modern kitchens and bathrooms and in most cases have access to landscaped communal gardens. Within each development there is a communal Lounge where Owners can get together and socialise.
"I recommend that you visit a Churchill Retirement Living development so that you can see for yourself the beautifully furnished Show Apartments and experience the lifestyle that can be enjoyed."
