Local girl Ann Slade is settling in well as the Lodge Manager at Churchill Retirement Living’s brand new De Clare Lodge development in the heart of Cowbridge. With the first wave of new apartment Owners now moving in, she’s looking forward to being at the heart of the new community.
“I started here in March,” says Ann. “So there’s been a lot of work to do getting everything ready and setting up my new office, meeting lots of nice people and completing all my training. I’m a real people person so that’s the aspect of the job I love. I’ve enjoyed getting to know all my new Owners, supporting them with their move and helping to sort out any little problems that they might have.”
With 25 years’ experience as a community mental health nurse in the local area, Ann is very well equipped to foster a positive environment where Owners can live an active, independent lifestyle both inside the Lodge and outside in the wider community. “I’m sure my previous background will come in useful,” she says. “I was looking for a new challenge, and managing a retirement development is certainly a new experience for me, but I’ve had lots of support from Churchill and its in-house management company Millstream Management Services, and I feel there’s a lot I can bring to the role. Looking out for the health and wellbeing of my Owners will be a key part of making sure they enjoy their new lifestyle here and make the most of it.”
She continues: "We’re already a very sociable bunch here so I’m looking forward to our first proper coffee morning, and we’ll have lots more social events happening soon for people to join in with as and when they want to. I think my biggest challenge will be finding a slot in people’s diaries, as most of our Owners have busy social lives and are out every day having fun and keeping active."
