Churchill is the 14th Best Company to work for in the UK

Churchill Retirement Living, the UK’s fastest growing privately-owned retirement housebuilder, has been named in the Top 100 Best Companies to work for in the UK by the Sunday Times.

This is the fifth time Churchill Retirement Living has been named in a Top 100 listing, having previously gained rankings in the Small Companies category. The expansion of the company sees Churchill move out of this category for the first time, competing against companies with up to 3,500 employees.

Achieving 14thplace, Churchill Retirement Living was the only housebuilding company to make the listing when the winners were announced at a gala dinner in London on 25th February.

The retirement housebuilder has gained its highest positioning to date, receiving top 10 scores for staff being happy with their work-life balance, and for employees not being bored with their work.

As well as gaining a coveted position in the top 15 of the Top 100 Best Companies list, Churchill Retirement Living also received 3 Star accreditation from Best Companies, recognising the company as being an ‘extraordinary place to work’.

Spencer McCarthy, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Churchill Retirement Living believes that staff happiness is the key to Churchill’s success: “I have always had the philosophy that if you treat people as you – or more importantly, they – want to be treated, you get a lot more from them,” he says.

“To be recognised once again, as one of the UK’s top 100 companies to work for is a fantastic accolade for every single member of Churchill Retirement Living,” continues McCarthy. “The culture of any company is its lifeblood. For our employees to be so supportive of our management and motivational culture is a major factor in the company’s ability to continue growing, and indeed for every individual who works at Churchill to grow with us.”

The Sunday Times Best Companies survey is the benchmark for engagement surveys in the UK. Surveys are sent to all staff and at least 40 per cent of these have to be returned for a company to be eligible. The survey contained 66 questions, measuring eight equally weighted workplace “factors” including leadership, my manager, my team, wellbeing, fair deal and giving something back. In addition to the staff survey each company is judged on policies, processes and facilities.
