Winner announced after naming new retirement development in Ashtead

A former Ashtead resident is celebrating after being announced as the lucky winner of a competition to name Churchill Retirement Living’s new development on Leatherhead Road in Ashtead.

93 year old Doreen Barrington, who had lived in Ashtead for 17 years before moving to Lostwithiel in Cornwall, has been presented with a cheque for £100 after naming the new development.

Mrs Barrington said: “I lived in Ashtead for many years and still have family who live nearby so I like to see what is going on in the area. I saw the competition advertised and thought of a number of names but decided to settle on Headley Lodge. The Defence Medical Rehabilitation Centre at Headley Court is only a few miles from the development and I wanted to honour the wonderful work it does for our wounded soldiers with this name. I’m thrilled to have won!”

Anne Scherrer, Regional Marketing Manager for Churchill Retirement Living, said: “Churchill Retirement Living likes to involve the local community in choosing the names for its developments and often does so by running a competition asking for suggestions. We received a vast number of entries for the new Ashtead development and we are pleased to have awarded Mrs Barrington with her winning cheque.”

Headley Lodge, which is currently under construction, is located just to the edge of the town centre and will comprise 33 private, one and two-bedroom, self-contained retirement apartments, with features such as a video-entry system, lift to all floors, a 24 hour care and support system, and a Lodge Manager.

Communal facilities include an Owners’ Lounge, Guest Suite and landscaped gardens. Like all Churchill Retirement Living developments, the location has been chosen for convenience and is within easy walking distance of the wide selection of shops and amenities of Ashtead town centre and has good public transport links.

Headley Lodge is due to launch in Spring 2017. For more information or to register your interest, please call 0800 458 1856 or click here.
