Churchill Retirement Living’s new development in Great Tattenhams has been named Stanley Lodge, in a nod to historic local figure Edward Smith-Stanley, the 12th Earl of Derby. Lord Stanley was co-founder of the Derby Stakes with Sir Charles Bunbury in 1780. Legend has it that he spun a coin with Bunbury to decide whether the race should be called the Derby Stakes or the Bunbury Stakes. The Earl of Derby won and gave his name to Epsom’s most prestigious horse race, cementing his place in local history.
Construction is under way on the new privately-owned apartments in Great Tattenhams, which are scheduled for completion in early 2022. As with all Churchill Retirement Living developments, those who move in will have the benefits of a communal Owners’ Lounge, a Guest Suite, a Lodge Manager, and a 24 hour emergency call alarm service.

We’re delighted to announce that our new collection of apartments in Great Tattenhams will be called Stanley Lodge, a name which we felt would link well with the town’s longstanding connection to the 12th Earl of Derby. Lord Stanley is remembered for approaching life with plenty of enthusiasm. We hope Stanley Lodge will be a place where local people can also do just that, and enjoy their retirement years to the full.”
