Moving house in your retirement years can be stressful, but having a team of experts on hand to take over not only the selling process but also the move itself, can really take the worry out of downsizing.
Churchill Retirement Living’s Home Exchange scheme is helping older movers across the country move into their ideal retirement property in just a matter of weeks. One such success story is of John and Joy Taylor, who sold their three-bedroom property in a little village near Rye, to move to Churchill’s Tamarisk Lodge in East Wittering.
Mrs Taylor said:
“Our home was getting too big for us to maintain, and the large garden especially was a growing concern. Our house needed updating so we knew our only options were to do the renovation or move. We initially looked at bungalows thinking this was the best way for us to downsize, but John was increasingly concerned about security, and we would still have the maintenance of the property and upkeep of a garden to contend with.”
That’s when we started to look at a retirement development being built nearby, but we weren’t keen on its location. We have the responsibility of an elderly relative, so couldn’t move too far, and when we started looking around we came across East Wittering and Tamarisk Lodge, and were immediately attracted to the area and the large apartments.
Using Churchill’s Home Exchange scheme, John and Joy received help every step of the way, leading to a quick and simple move.
Mrs Taylor continues: “Knowing that our home in Rye was in need of an update, we were pleasantly surprised to find out that Churchill offers a Home Exchange Service, meaning we didn’t have to worry about renovating our house in order for it to sell on the open market. It also meant we were in no sort of chain, and the older you get you just don’t want the hassle. It was great to pass all this over to the team at Churchill, who took control of the entire process and provided us with an excellent removals company who ensured the moving day ran smoothly.”
One of the many things which attracted the couple to retirement living at Tamarisk Lodge was the social aspect of Lodge life, while still being able to live independently.
Mr Taylor explains: “There’s so much to discover in East Wittering and at Tamarisk Lodge itself. There are so many Lodge activities which we always try to get involved in, including the Fish and Chip Fridays and coffee mornings; they even hosted a garden party the week after we arrived so all of the new Owners could get to know each other.
“As well as the great Lodge activities, we’re always out and about. While the weather was hot and sunny we would go to the beach most days – it’s the perfect place to sit and watch the world go by. Our sons have both visited us and used the Guest Suite, and were most impressed with what Tamarisk Lodge has to offer, and we are looking forward to our friends visiting us and using it, after their initial surprise at our decision to move. We have a relative who lives not far from another Churchill development, and so we’re hoping to use their Guest Suite next time we visit her.
There really is everything you could wish for here. The security, which was paramount for us, is very good, and the locality and transport links are great for taking full advantage of the surrounding areas. We feel that we can live a life in the way we have always hoped to, except in a much more secure and sociable environment; we would, and do, recommend it to everyone.
