Local war hero lays special date brick at the Lodge named in his honour

Local war hero Leonard Trewin unveiled a special date brick last week at Churchill Retirement Living’s new development in the heart of Yate. The new apartments on Normandy Drive have been named Trewin Lodge in his honour, after he was also awarded the Legion d’Honneur by the French government for his service in helping to liberate France during the Normandy Landings. He returned to Normandy in June to receive the medal at a special service for the 75th anniversary of D-Day.

Churchill’s Regional Marketing Executive Jo Ridehalgh said: “It was a privilege to welcome Leonard to lay this special date brick at Trewin Lodge. We’ve been delighted to play a part in the well-deserved recognition Leonard has received for his incredible service to his country and the town, and we were so impressed to see him receiving the Legion d’Honneur medal over in France earlier this year. He is an inspiring man, and an excellent example of an older person who is still active and playing an important role in society. We hope Trewin Lodge will be a place where other local people can downsize and enjoy a change of lifestyle, so they can continue to live life to the full just like Leonard.”
