Churchill Retirement Living has welcomed its first Owners at Neville Lodge in Peacehaven, where a thriving community is starting to take shape. The age exclusive development on South Coast Road, opposite The Dell, has seen the first wave of Owners move into their brand new one and two bedroom apartments.
Among them was Betty Daly, who moved into Neville Lodge from her old bungalow just a hundred yards or so up the road. She says:
I kept passing the Lodge every day when it was being built, and as I watched it grow brick by brick I decided it would be a good idea to move here. And it was! I loved my garden, but it was time to leave all the work behind and enjoy somewhere new. I’ve only moved a short distance, but now I can wake up to beautiful views of the sea every day from my new balcony.
Marie Wilcockson was the very first Owner to move in, and another who is glad to have made the break from a much-loved old bungalow. She says: "I’ve lived in Peacehaven since 1964, in a bungalow my husband’s uncle built after winning the plot of land in a competition to name Peacehaven in the 1930s. I have a lot of friends and family here and am a very active member of the community. With my busy social life and all my volunteering, the task of maintaining the bungalow and garden was becoming an unwanted burden, and the security was also a worry. Now I’m in a nice new apartment where I don’t need to worry about any of that. I’m secure and safe yet totally independent. It’s easy to keep the place clean and tidy, I’ve got no more worries about maintenance, and I’ve been able to remain near my family and give them peace of mind that I’m extremely happy. I love it here and it was the best decision I could have made."
Jean White agrees:
Even though I did love my garden, it’s lovely not having to worry about it any more,” she says. “I can get through the housework in half an hour, so I’ve got more time to get out and about and enjoy doing the things I want to do. I’m right on the bus route now, so it’s easy to pop into Brighton or Eastbourne for the day, or if I feel like relaxing I can just enjoy the lovely views from my balcony, or watch the dog walkers and kids playing over on The Dell. There’s always plenty going on right on our doorstep.
Betty Barnard moved from the outskirts of Brighton to her new apartment, and she has her family to thank for persuading her to make the move. “My son lives locally, and he found this place and pretty much made the decision for me,” she says. “Now I’m here and I’m very glad he did. I’m closer to family, and I’ve been settling in well and getting to know my new neighbours. Everyone here is very nice and sociable but we also enjoy our independence, we all get on very well and we have the privacy of our own apartments when we want it. We also have a lovely Lodge Manager Carla, who does a great job of being a friendly neighbour to us all, and making sure everything at the Lodge runs smoothly.”
