After a long, cold winter resulting in several maintenance repairs to her house, 76 year old Mary Watson had decided enough was enough. She phoned family and friends and asked them what they thought of her moving to a retirement development and was met with a pleasant mixture of enthusiasm and relief. Shortly after, Mary went to view Beaufort Lodge – Churchill Retirement Living’s development in Woking - and two months later she moved in.
Mary continues the story; “I was living in a large house in Ashford, Middlesex and it was difficult for my two cousins to visit as they are not able to drive. So, I decided I needed to be nearer to them and once I had seen the apartment and all the facilities at Beaufort Lodge, I fell in love with the place immediately. I had a very good feeling about it – I had looked at other retirement apartments, but this just felt right and I know my late husband would have approved too.”
Mary was also relieved that she had used the Retirement Lifestyle Specialist’s Home Exchange Scheme as it meant she was able to secure the apartment of her choice and could move quickly and without complications. “I am so glad I used the service as I think my previous house is still on the market! And I simply love it here. I have had the two bedrooms fitted – one as a bedroom, the other as a study and I have been able to treat myself to new furniture in the living room. Everything in my new apartment is so lovely that I have enjoyed it right from the outset.”
Mary also finds the Lodge’s location close to the town centre to be a real plus point. “I had to drive everywhere from where I used to live. Here, I can walk into Woking which has everything - from theatres and cinemas to a terrific range of shops and places to eat. I can walk to the doctor and dentist too and I can get to the train station in less than ten minutes and the bus stops are really close by. It is very good for me that I can walk everywhere now – not simply because it is easy, but also it is good for my health!”
There are new friends to be made at Beaufort Lodge too. “Everyone is very friendly here – the atmosphere is relaxed and we all get on well. No-one is pushy and we all enjoy getting together at the social events but we are not constantly knocking on each other’s door. We have the best of both here.”
“I feel safer too,” says Mary – “you know there is someone on hand 24 hours a day and I don’t have to worry if I have shut my windows when I go out as I am on the third floor and the security here is second to none. It’s a really lovely feeling – quite liberating in fact!” Mary also knows that she no longer needs to sort out any maintenance issues – “we can just let the Lodge Manager know and someone from maintenance comes to fix it.”
“All these things make retirement living at Beaufort Lodge a great place to live. I would most certainly recommend it to anyone. And do it sooner rather than later when you are young enough and fit enough to enjoy all that Churchill Retirement Living and Woking have to offer.”
