Coffee and cake raises money for Macmillan at Hawthorn Lodge

Owners at Churchill Retirement Living’s Hawthorn Lodge in Farnham have raised over £700 for Macmillan Cancer Support after hosting a successful charity coffee morning.

The event, which was part of the charity’s World’s Biggest Coffee Morning campaign, took place at the development on Longbridge.

Visitors were treated to coffee, delicious cakes and biscuits in the Owners’ Lounge, and helped to raise a total of £737.79 for the charity. There was also a special raffle, which was hosted by town mayor Councillor John Ward, with prizes donated by Owners and the local community.

Anne Scherrer, Regional Marketing Manager at Churchill Retirement Living, said: “We were delighted to be involved in Macmillan’s World’s Biggest Coffee Morning once again, as it is such a fantastic way to raise money for a very worthy cause. Our Lodges offer a great sense of community and companionship, and this event was an ideal opportunity for visitors to experience the lifestyle on offer here.

"We encourage Owners to get involved in as much or as little as they like, with many regularly taking advantage of the communal facilities on offer, including the Owners' Lounge where we hold regular coffee mornings and fun social events like this.”

Churchill Retirement Living has a special relationship with Macmillan Cancer Support and has raised more than £280,000 for the charity since 2009. It is one of the three national charities chosen to receive funds as part of the Churchill Foundation - Churchill Retirement Living’s new registered charitable trust with Dame Esther Rantzen DBE as patron. This is the seventh year the retirement developer has taken part in World’s Biggest Coffee morning, which last year raised £28,000.

Hawthorn Lodge is a stylish collection of 50 one and two bedroom, privately-owned, retirement apartments. Each apartment has been designed exclusively for those in their retirement years and has a number of safety and security features, such as a 24 hour emergency call line and a video entry system, for complete peace of mind.

There is also a resident Lodge Manager, who oversees the running of the development, and an Owners’ Lounge, which can be used as a place to enjoy a catch up with neighbours, or for holding events. The development is set in landscaped grounds in a central location, just a short distance from public transport links, shops and all the local amenities on offer in Farnham.
