Portsmouth charity Cosham Lions has received a cheque for £500 from Churchill Retirement Living to support its work in the local community. The charity’s President Pat Nixon, along with several members of the committee, attended a coffee morning event at Churchill’s Simmonds Lodge development in Drayton, where the cheque was presented.
The development’s Lodge Manager and other members of the Churchill team were also in attendance for the presentation, as well as a number of Simmonds Lodge Owners who afterwards enjoyed a chat with the charity’s representatives over coffee and cake.
Part of a global network of similar clubs, the Cosham Lions bring together local volunteers to answer the needs of their local community, serving an area north of Portsmouth that incorporates Cosham, Drayton, Farlington, Paulsgrove, Copner, Hilsea and North End. The donation from Churchill will help towards funding the charity’s regular initiatives to support disadvantaged members of the community.
Churchill’s Regional Marketing Executive Deborah Waldeck said: “Churchill Retirement Living is well known for its charity work and giving something back to the community is a fundamental part of what we believe in. We wanted to do this at our Drayton development by making a contribution to a local charity that makes a real difference in the local area, and it’s a pleasure to be supporting the important work that the Cosham Lions do.”
Cosham Lions’ President Pat Nixon added: “'Cosham Lions are part of the Lions Club International but as a local club we work in the local community. We are a small group of men and women who, by working together on a voluntary basis, accomplish far more than possible as individuals.
"We ensure that all the money we raise and donations that are made go towards helping the local community in a number of ways, with every penny collected going direct to good causes and not a penny spent on administration. We focus on good deeds and help those who are less fortunate than ourselves.
"The award of £500 from Churchill Retirement Living is very gratefully received and will go a long way in helping to deliver some of our initiatives in the local community.”
