First Owner brings their golden retriever to Atkins Lodge

When retired couple Tom and Elizabeth Spence were looking to move closer to their grandchildren they had one very important consideration – could they bring their Golden Retriever Archie?

The couple chose to move to Churchill Retirement Living’s Atkins Lodge in Orpington.

Mr Spence said: “We wanted to move from Redhill to be closer to our grandchildren. We look after our youngest grandson two nights a week but my daughter lives in Sidcup and we were having to do a 40 mile round trip twice a week to pick him up. Once we had decided to move closer we looked at various retirement properties in the area. We chose a Churchill development because they were so good at keeping us up to date with progress.  And of course we could bring Archie with us.”

The couple moved in June and are delighted with their decision. Mr Spence said: “Now we’re halfway between our son and his family, who live in Bromley, and our daughter with our granddaughter who is six and our 18 month old grandson in Sidcup. Our journey to pick up him up is much better. It’s a perfect position for us as we’re seeing much more of everyone. We’re really near all of the amenities here – close to the shops and we’re on a main bus route too so everything is really easy.”

And Archie the dog is settling in nicely too. Mr Spence said: “We’re right opposite the park so it’s easy for us to take him for his regular walks. He has been very calm about the move and he knows this as home now. The only small hurdle we had was we chose a first floor apartment and Archie had never been in a lift before! He was a bit unnerved on the day we moved in but he’s totally used to it now and happy in his new home.”

Anne Scherrer, Regional Marketing Manager from Churchill Retirement Living said: “At Churchill we are very happy for people to bring their pets with them when they move. We are delighted Archie has settled so well and of course Mr and Mrs Spence are enjoying their new lifestyle, nearer to their family with all the amenities of Orpington on their doorstep.

“Orpington is a very popular area and there has been a great deal of interest in this attractive new development right from the outset.  We look forward to welcoming many more new Owners to Atkins Lodge to enjoy their retirement in a vibrant community.”
