Gardening award is blooming great for local retirement Lodge

A green fingered Owner from a retirement development in Fleet has been recognised for her gardening skills in the annual Fleet and Church Crookham in Bloom competition.

Nedra Lowe from Churchill Retirement Living’s Russell Lodge on Branksomewood Road has tended to the lodge’s communal garden since moving in last year. She has been awarded a Silver Gilt in the Community Garden category for her collection of planted pots and hanging baskets.

Nedra said: “I have always enjoyed gardening as I find it very therapeutic. The garden at Russell Lodge has been a real labour of love for me; I wanted to create a space that all of the Owners could walk around, sit in and enjoy. I’ve even grown some herb pots so that residents can help themselves and add them into their cooking.

“The judges were originally coming to view the planted pots I’d put together, however they were so impressed that they moved our entry into the Communal Garden category. Everyone has been very supportive donating bulbs and money for the garden, and I’m pleased to have done them all proud.”

“I can’t wait to attend the event and pick up my award – it’s all very exciting! I moved to Russell Lodge last year after my husband passed away and I began struggling to maintain our large home. I lived in Essex but moved to Fleet to be closer to my friends and family, who live in the area. There is a wonderful sense of community at the lodge, and obviously I love looking after the garden!”

The apartments at Russell Lodge are already 90% sold with prices starting from £309,950. Each property boasts spacious rooms throughout and an ideal combination of design and functionality. The fully fitted, stylish kitchens include a built in fridge and freezer, hob and an oven, which is located at an easy-reach height. All of the properties benefit from illuminated light switches for added convenience.

Owners have been keen to take advantage of the range of features designed to make later life easier; such as the Owners’ Lounge and Guest Suite, fully managed landscaped gardens, and security features, such as a video-entry system, a 24-hour emergency Careline and a Lodge Manager.

The Show Complex at Russell Lodge is open daily from 10am to 5pm. For more information please call 01252 883 822.
