Churchill Retirement Living’s new development on South Street in Hythe has been named Hubert Lodge, in a nod to Hubert Scott-Paine, creator of the iconic Supermarine Spitfire aircraft and an important figure in the town’s boat building history. The Company has also released a new CGI image showing how the finished apartments will look.
Hubert Scott-Paine was born in 1890, the son of a ship chandler. He bought Hythe shipyard in 1927 and renamed it the British Power Boat Company, before growing it into one of the country's most modern mass production boat building yards. He also founded Supermarine Aviation, the company that later went on to build the famous Supermarine Spitfire aircraft which played an instrumental role in World War II. After the war he pioneered the use of flying boats in civil aviation and established the first international flying boat service.
Churchill’s Regional Marketing Executive Deborah Waldeck said:
For every new Churchill development we try to choose a name with a strong connection to the local community. We’re delighted to announce that our new collection of apartments in Hythe will be called Hubert Lodge, a name which we felt would link well with the town’s boat building heritage. We hope Hubert Lodge will be a place where local people can enjoy their retirement years to the full just a short distance from the waterfront.
Construction is well under way on the new privately-owned apartments on South Street, which once completed will provide attractive, high quality, secure, self-contained accommodation in landscaped grounds. As with all Churchill Retirement Living developments, Owners will have the benefits of a communal Owners’ Lounge, a Guest Suite, a Lodge Manager, and a 24 hour emergency call alarm service.
Like all Churchill Retirement Living developments, the location has been chosen for convenience and is just a short walk from local shops and amenities of Hythe’s town centre, as well as the attractive marina and waterfront.
