Local MP Stephen McPartland has attended an official ground breaking ceremony at Churchill Retirement Living’s new Stevenage development to mark the start of construction of the purpose built retirement apartments.
Once complete, the development on Letchmore Road in Stevenage Old Town, will comprise 38 private, self-contained one and two bedroom apartments that are specially designed for the over 60s.
The apartments will include features such as a video-entry system, lift to all floors and a 24 hour care and support system. In addition, communal facilities include an Owners’ Lounge, Guest Suite and landscaped gardens.
Greg Hilton, Regional MD at Churchill Retirement Living Eastern, comments: “With more than 11.1 million people in the UK aged 65 or over, we believe better provision of housing for older people and the need to ensure there are sufficient, good quality retirement living options to meet the needs of an ageing population is an absolute priority.
“Our properties offer security, peace of mind and independent living, along with community and support. Being in a manageable home with no maintenance can offer a new lease of life for people – ensuring they are close to amenities, and surrounded by a new community. We are delighted to be bringing our new development to Stevenage and have already seen lots of interest from local over 60s keen to find out more about the benefits of retirement living.”
Stephen McPartland MP, added: “Churchill’s new development is a fantastic addition to the housing provision in Stevenage. Specialist retirement housing is proven to have a very real, beneficial effect on older people’s health and wellbeing, be it from being in a modern, warm, well insulated home to having a sense of community and no more loneliness. This can also help save health and care services considerable resources and contribute to easing the longer term pressure on the NHS.”
The apartments at Churchill’s new Stevenage development are expected to go on sale early 2016. For more information and to register your interest, please call 0800 458 1856 or visit www.churchillretirement.co.uk/stevenage
