Local MP Marks Start of Construction of New Wetherby Development

Local MP Alec Shelbrooke has attended an official ground breaking ceremony at Churchill Retirement Living’s new Wetherby development to mark the start of construction of the purpose built retirement apartments.

Once complete, the development on Deighton Road in Wetherby, will comprise 56 private, self-contained one and two bedroom apartments that are specially designed for the over 60s.

The apartments will include features such as a video-entry system, lift to all floors and a 24 hour care and support system. In addition, communal facilities include an Owners’ Lounge, Guest Suite and landscaped gardens.

Alan Perry, Regional MD at Churchill Retirement Living Midlands, said: “With more than 11.1 million people in the UK aged 65 or over, we believe better provision of housing for older people and the need to ensure there are sufficient, good quality retirement living options to meet the needs of an ageing population is an absolute priority.

“Our properties offer security, peace of mind and independent living, along with community and support.  Being in a manageable home with no maintenance can offer a new lease of life for people – ensuring they are close to amenities, and surrounded by a new community.  We are delighted to be bringing our new development to Wetherby and have already seen lots of interest from local over 60s keen to find out more about the benefits of retirement living.”

Alec Shelbrooke MP, added: “Churchill’s new development is a fantastic addition to the housing provision in Wetherby. Specialist retirement housing is proven to have a very real, beneficial effect on older people’s health and wellbeing. In addition, the development utilises a previously used brownfield site, allowing older people to downsize within the town creating a trickle-down effect for younger families in the local housing market.”

The apartments at Churchill’s new Wetherby development are expected to go on sale Spring 2016.  For more information on Churchill Retirement Living and to register your interest, please call 0800 458 1852  or visit www.churchillretirement.co.uk/wetherby
