Local MP Tom Brake visited Churchill Retirement Living’s new Laurel Lodge development in Carshalton last week, which is currently under construction.
Mr Brake visited the development on Denmark Road to install a special date plaque and was also given an exclusive tour of the site.
Jerry Bond, contracts manager at Churchill Retirement Living, said: “We were delighted that Mr Brake was able to join us to mark this occasion. Churchill’s developments offer security, peace of mind and independent living for our Owners, along with community and support.
"Being in a manageable home with no maintenance can offer a new lease of life for people – ensuring they are close to amenities, and surrounded by a new community. We are delighted to be bringing our new development to Carshalton and have already seen lots of interest from local over 60s keen to find out more about the benefits of retirement living.”
Tom Brake MP, added: “Retirement properties are a crucial part of helping to unblock the UK’s housing crisis and Churchill’s new development is a significant addition to the housing provision in Carshalton. Specialist retirement housing is proven to have a very real, beneficial effect on older people’s health and wellbeing, be it from being in a modern, warm, well insulated home to having a sense of community and no more loneliness.
"This can also help save health and care services considerable resources and contribute to easing the longer term pressure on the NHS.”
The development comprises 57 privately owned, self-contained one and two bedroom apartments that are specially designed for the over 60s. The apartments include features such as a video-entry system, lift to all floors, a 24 hour care and support system, and a Lodge Manager. In addition, communal facilities include an Owners’ Lounge, Guest Suite and landscaped gardens.
