Shirley Borrett is settling in well at Churchill Retirement Living’s Chantry Lodge in Andover, and has been making the most of the broadband connection in the Owners’ Lounge to catch up with friends online whilst meeting new neighbours at the same time.
She says: “When I first moved in I didn’t have wi-fi set up in my apartment so I came down to the Owners’ Lounge to get online with my laptop. I found it was a great way to be sociable and meet other new Owners as they were passing through or spending time there, so I’m still doing it even though I’ve got wi-fi in my own apartment now.
“I’m not particularly technical, but I do like to keep in touch with my friends and relatives over email, sharing photos and stories about what we’re all up to. I’ve also been arranging for some of my old friends from Somerset to come and pay a visit to Andover, so perhaps they’ll stay over in the Lodge’s Guest Suite.
“I relocated from Somerset to be closer to my daughter and grandchildren, which is wonderful as I now get to see them all the time. I often get a message with a request to “get the doughnuts in” when they’re on their way here!
“I’ve also been researching and ordering some new furniture online, with a little help from my daughter, which I really enjoyed doing and I’m very pleased with how it all looks in my new apartment. I’m keen to keep learning about new technology and I’m thinking about getting an iPad, so if Churchill organises one of its computer skills courses here sometime soon perhaps someone can give me a lesson on how to use it!”
