Welcome Centre opens at new retirement development in Torquay

Churchill Retirement Living, the UK’s fastest growing privately owned retirement housebuilder, has opened an on-site welcome centre at its new Sachs Lodge development in Torquay due to high demand from local retirees.

Sachs Lodge is a new development of 33 privately owned, self-contained apartments that are specially designed for the over 60s.  The development enjoys views across the dramatic Lyme Bay and is also within a short walk of Ilsham Green a grassy expanse leading straight down to the sea and part of the South West Coast Foot Path.

Potential purchasers are now being encouraged to make an appointment to visit the new sales office on Asheldon Road to be amongst the first to secure one of the purpose built one and two bedroom retirement apartments.

Jo Ridehalgh, regional marketing executive for Churchill Retirement Living said: “With more than 11.1 million people in the UK aged 65 or over, we believe better provision of housing for older people and the need to ensure there are sufficient, good quality retirement living options to meet the needs of an ageing population is an absolute priority.

“Our properties offer security, peace of mind and independent living, along with community and support.  Being in a manageable home with no maintenance can offer a new lease of life for people – ensuring they are close to amenities, and surrounded by a new community.  We are delighted to be bringing our new development to Torquay.  We have already seen lots of interest from local over 60s keen to find out more about the benefits of retirement living which is why we have opened an on-site Welcome Centre ahead of the official show complex launch in June.”

Offering quality retirement accommodation and safe and independent living, the development is in a convenient location close to local shops and amenities.

Apartments will boast spacious rooms throughout and an ideal combination of design and functionality. The fully fitted, stylish kitchens include a built in fridge and freezer, hob and an oven, which is located at an easy-reach height. All of the properties benefit from illuminated light switches for added convenience. Owners also enjoy ultimate peace of mind from a fitted camera entry system for the highest level of security, 24 hour emergency call system and Lodge Manager.  A number of the apartments have balconies with sea views and the two, top floor penthouse apartments each offer luxury wrap around terraces.

With less to worry about, Owners will have more time to do the things they enjoy, including taking advantage of the host of other benefits which will be on offer including having family or friends to stay in the development’s well-appointed Guest Suite, and enjoying a chat with neighbours, or attending one of the many events, in the Owners’ Lounge.  They can also benefit from Churchill’s Reward Card which gives them access to exclusive deals and discounts on a variety of national brands and local retailers.

Built on the site of the former Gleneagles Hotel which inspired John Cleese to write the classic sitcom ‘Fawlty Towers’; the new development has been named Sachs Lodge in memory of the late Andrew Sachs, fondly remembered by many for his role as Manuel in the sitcom and who passed away in 2016.

Sachs Lodge overlooks the sea at Lyme Bay and Anstey’s Cove beach sits below the end of the garden, just half a mile walk via the South West Coastal Path.  Anstey’s Cove Beach is quiet, peaceful and a great beach to come to escape the crowds.

The development is well-located for the desirable Wellswood Village which has an excellent selection of local shops and amenities including a Post Office, a patisserie, a pharmacy, a wine bar and a deli, beauticians and hairdressers.

The marina, seafront and town centre are just a short distance away for shopping and entertainment.  There are a number of award-winning restaurants and gastro pubs as well as the exclusive department store Hoopers which offers four floors of fashion and lifestyle ranges.

On the outskirts of Torquay there are two out-of-town shopping centres with high street favourites Marks & Spencer, Sainsbury’s and Next as well as a choice of cafés and food outlets and ample free parking.
