Penrith retirement development named after Roper Street’s former brewery

Churchill Retirement Living’s new development on Roper Street in the heart of Penrith has been named Dutton Lodge, in a nod to the street’s heritage and the Duttons Brewery that formerly stood there.

Roper Street’s largest brewery was originally founded by Glasson’s as the Union Court Brewery in 1857. A hundred years later it was taken over by Dutton’s Blackburn Brewery, and was known as Dutton’s until it became one of the last of Penrith’s brewery buildings to be demolished in the 1980s.

Construction is now under way to revitalise the street with a block of 54 brand new privately-owned retirement apartments, which once completed will provide attractive, high quality, secure accommodation in landscaped grounds. As with all Churchill Retirement Living developments, Owners will enjoy independent living with the benefits of a communal Owners’ Lounge, a Guest Suite, a Lodge Manager, and a 24 hour emergency call alarm service.

Churchill’s Regional Marketing Manager Bernadette Hennelly said:

“For every new Churchill development we try to choose a name with a strong connection to the local community. We’re delighted to announce that our new collection of apartments in Penrith will be called Dutton Lodge, a name which we felt would link well with Roper Street’s brewing heritage. We hope Dutton Lodge will be a place where local people can enjoy raising a glass and living their retirement years to the full.”

Like all Churchill Retirement Living developments, the location has been chosen for convenience and is just a short walk from local shops and amenities of Penrith’s town centre, as well as public transport links.
