Retirees share a story with children from Letchmore Infants’ School

Pupils from Letchmore Infants’ and Nursery School in Stevenage visited Churchill Retirement Living’s Astonia Lodge to celebrate St George’s Day and share stories they had written with the Owners.

18 children from the school visited the Lodge to present a St George’s themed project they have been working on, before splitting into groups and reading aloud from their story books. The children also played themed games and acted out the story of St George and the dragon. The visit marks the start of an ongoing partnership between Astonia Lodge and Letchmore Infants’ and Nursery school, as Churchill looks to build community links in the areas surrounding its Lodges.

Headteacher Roma Marshall said: “The children were delighted at the opportunity to visit everyone at Astonia Lodge and were so excited to show the Owners their project work. It was lovely to hear the children sharing their stories with the Owners too. The children’s journey to becoming fluent readers will benefit greatly from the opportunity to read to the Owners at Astonia Lodge.”

Yvette Christy, regional marketing manager at Churchill Retirement Living, said: “We thoroughly enjoyed the visit from the children and their reading was brilliant. It’s great for the Owners to get involved with visits like this. We are always keen to arrange an assortment of events to take place in the Owners’ Lounge at the Lodge, and look forward to welcoming the children back again.”
