Tai Chi keeps Owners fit and well at Amelia Lodge

A group of retirees living at Churchill Retirement Living’s Amelia Lodge in Henleaze have been enjoying the many health and fitness benefits of Tai Chi through regular classes in the Owners’ Lounge.

The classes were orchestrated by Lodge Manager Alison Speechly to give the Owners an opportunity to keep fit and have fun.

Alison explains: “Our Owners are always keen participants in activities that keep them busy and help with fitness and I thought that Tai Chi was something everyone could get involved with. It’s drawn quite the following so now every Monday we have a regular group that gathers in the Owners’ Lounge, or across the road in the park, to enjoy a low impact workout.”

Owner Jean Marwick, who lives at Amelia Lodge, says:

Tai Chi is an ideal exercise for older people. There is nothing strenuous, just gentle exercises which we all agree is good for keeping fit. We all enjoy the friendship that the class brings too.

Her neighbour Gillian Harvey agrees, adding: “I like to keep active and healthy and Tai Chi is so beneficial for both mind and body! I’ve found it has improved my balance, helped me feel fitter and more relaxed, and it’s also a great way for us all to socialise as a group.”

Another Amelia Lodge Owner Angela Hemingway adds: “It’s a really good session and a great way to enjoy some gentle exercise, which is such an important thing to do as you get older. We’ve certainly been feeling the benefits!”

Located on Henleaze Terrace, Amelia Lodge is a collection of 33 one and two bedroom privately owned retirement apartments and shared facilities, designed exclusively for the over 60s.
