A popular residential suburb of Southampton, Bitterne lies approximately 3 miles to the east of the City Centre. 

  • Bitterne town centre is mainly pedestrian with a variety of shops to accommodate everyday needs including Sainsbury’s supermarket, Boots the Chemist, Poundland, Specsavers, a butcher, a farm shop, florists, jewellers, hairdressers, beauty salon, nail bar as well as cafes and takeaways. There are also a number of banks including Nationwide, Halifax and Lloyds. Away from the pedestrian centre, there is a leisure centre, health centre and library.
  • There are good transport links with road access into the centre of Southampton and beyond with bus stops located along Bursledon Road and Maybray King Road. Bitterne railway station links to Southampton, Portsmouth, and Southsea. 
  • The city of Southampton has an important aviation and maritime heritage. The city attracts over 4 million tourists each year with its range of attractions such as museums, galleries and award winning parks. West Quay in Southampton has recently been extended and offers a state of the art cinema, shopping and restaurants.
  • Southampton Central railway station provides direct links to London Waterloo via destinations including Southampton Parkway where Southampton Airport is located, Winchester and Basingstoke.  Bitterne, Portsmouth, Southsea, Salisbury, Brockenhurst, Bournemouth, Poole and Wareham can all be reached from Southampton Central railway station.
  • From Southampton Town Quay, Red Funnel Ferry operates regular passenger and vehicle services to Cowes on the Isle of Wight.
