More than £1,000 has been raised for a local hospice after a charity auction was held at a popular retirement development.
Members of the local community were invited to attend the special event at Churchill Retirement Living’s Atkins Lodge, in Orpington, to help raise vital funds for St Christopher’s Hospice in Bromley.
Donations from local businesses across the town went under the hammer, including a month’s golf membership, an exclusive cut and blow dry package, a spa day and piano lessons. A grand total of £1,075 was raised on the day.
St Christopher’s Hospice cares for patients and their families across South East London who are living with cancer and other life-threatening illnesses. It is a registered charity, which supports more than 6,000 patients each year helping them towards achieving the best quality of life possible.
Anne Scherrer, regional marketing manager at Churchill Retirement Living, said: “It was wonderful to see so many people visiting the Lodge to help us to raise such a fantastic amount of money for this worthwhile cause. A number of local businesses have been extremely generous with their donations and we are very grateful for their support. The work that St Christopher’s Hospice does is invaluable to the patients it cares for and their families and we are proud to be supporting the phenomenal work that they do.”
Atkins Lodge, located on Orpington High Street, is a stylish collection of 50 one and two bedroom privately-owned retirement apartments. Each apartment has been designed exclusively for those in their retirement years and has a number of safety and security features, such as a 24 hour emergency call line and a video entry system, for complete peace of mind.
There is also a resident Lodge Manager, who oversees the running of the development, and an Owners’ Lounge, which can be used as a place to enjoy a catch up with like-minded neighbours, or for holding events.
The development is set in a central location, just a short distance from public transport links, shops and all the local amenities on offer in Orpington.
