Ring the Bells at Christmas
A group of fun-loving Churchill Owners from Bournemouth has created a Christmas pop video with a difference. After writing and recording their own feel-good festive song called Ring the Bells, we helped them film their own video to promote the song, to raise money for charity and show what life with Churchill is all about.
The choir’s ages range from 62 to 92, but age is no barrier for this inspiring group. With a little help from Churchill they’ve shown it’s never too late to try something new, and more importantly, they’ve had plenty of fun along the way.
Helping our Owners live fulfilled
The Churchill Retirement Living Choir is made up of Owners at two of our developments in Dorset, led by choir master and voice coach Ali Sharpe. They get together to rehearse once a week and hold regular concerts throughout the year to share their music with the local community.
When we heard they had written Ring The Bells – their own Christmas song – we were keen to help spread the word and get their voices heard further afield. We helped them record the song professionally and, to create a music video with a difference, we arranged for the choir members to film it all themselves!
We know our Owners aren’t afraid to try something new, and this group certainly rose to the challenge. They quickly got to grips with modern technology, learning how to use GoPro cameras and the latest video recording equipment to create the video. The result is a wonderful feel-good Christmas pop song showing what the festive season and life with Churchill is all about.
The Churchill lifestyle
We know that loneliness and isolation is an issue that affects many older people in our society. This is something we tend to hear a lot about at Christmas, but unfortunately it’s an issue that affects many people all year round.
However, at Churchill Retirement Living our Owners have a range of regular social activities on their doorstep that help them feel part of a friendly community. The Owners’ Lounge and other communal spaces provide a focal point for regular shared activities at all our developments. This helps ensure our Owners will always have like-minded neighbours around to chat with over a cup of coffee, and enjoy some company whenever they wish.
The Churchill Retirement Living Choir is an excellent example of this, with Owners coming together once a week to sing and socialise together. We have choirs at many of our developments around the country, and we hope this song will inspire many more to give singing a try. Singing has many health benefits and is a great way to make friends. And most of all, as Ring the Bells goes to show, it can be a lot of fun!
