About the role

Due to our continued growth, we’re are looking for an additional Structural Engineer to join our expanding Group Engineering Team. You will produce structural engineers’ calculations and construction drawings for CRL new build retirement housing apartment blocks and subsequent checking of proprietary items & site inspections to provide support to the team during the construction period.

Buildings range from 2-5 stories generally and consist load bearing masonry cross-wall construction with trussed rafter or concrete flat roofs and widespan concrete floors. Built on brownfield sites of varying complexity requiring considered engineering input regarding foundations and external retaining walls

Primarily you will produce structural designs & construction drawings for projects that are cost effective and fit for purpose, carry out monthly site inspections (full driving licence essential) and provide support and advice to the regional technical, construction and design teams, the Pre-Contracts Manager and regional Land Buyers.

Our Engineers enjoy being involved in all design aspects of our projects, taking their projects from planning through to construction completion, with autonomy and responsibility for developing their own design ideas and concepts, whilst being supported by an experienced team of Engineers. 

Hours of work are 9:00 am to 5:30 pm, Monday to Thursday and 9.00am to 5.00pm on Friday with one hour for lunch each day. The engineer is expected to be flexible in keeping with the responsibilities of the position which may include working additional unpaid hours at busy times.

About you

You will have a relevant degree or equivalent and have circa 2 to 3 years proven experience ideally within the housing sector. You will have good technical knowledge with the ability to understand engineering principles and carry out calculations.

You must be able to demonstrate good time management, strong communication and organisation skills as well as the ability to work on your own initiative.

You will be passionate about Structural Engineering design and you will stay up to date with all aspects of engineering and building construction/regulation. You will be studying towards or hold a qualification with the Institute of Civil Engineering along with suitable design experience.

We’d love it if you have previous experience of designing structural engineering drawings for multi-storey apartment buildings and some design experience, preferably for a developer or within a private practice.

You will have excellent interpersonal skills, a proactive approach and a determination to succeed.

You will have a practical approach to creative and cost-effective design, be experienced using Autocad and structural design software (experience of Tedds preferred but not essential), as well as having excellent presentation, verbal and written abilities.

It is also vital that you hold a full UK Drivers Licence as site visits will be a key part of your role.
