Daffodil donation gives a boost to Highcliffe & Walkford In Bloom

The local Highcliffe & Walkford In Bloom gardening committee has received a welcome boost from Churchill Retirement Living after the Company donated 600 daffodil bulbs to help brighten up the high street and support the town’s entry into the main South & South East In Bloom campaign next summer.

Highcliffe & Walkford In Bloom was set up by Highcliffe resident Susan Smith, who recently moved into an apartment at Churchill’s new Rothesay Lodge development on Stuart Road. She approached the Company for a donation to plant some February Gold daffodils along the bank outside the Lodge, and the bulbs were delivered and planted in late October.

Susan said: “This particular bank of land on the way into Highcliffe was a bit overgrown and not very well maintained, so we thought it would benefit from a dash of spring colour. Our new daffodils will come out nice and early next February and really brighten up the approach into town. We only have a small group of volunteers at Highcliffe & Walkford in Bloom so we’re always looking out for new members and ways to raise money for plants. We’d all like to say a big thank you to Churchill for this generous donation to help us achieve our plans for next year.”

Deborah Waldeck, Regional Marketing Executive for Churchill Retirement Living, added:

It was a pleasure to support Highcliffe & Walkford in Bloom with this donation to help them continue their excellent work brightening up the town. Our Owners all enjoy an active and independent lifestyle here in Highcliffe, and we know that gardening is a great way to socialise and keep giving something back to the community. A number of Owners at Rothesay Lodge enjoyed volunteering on this project, and I’m sure everyone will enjoy the daffodil display once spring arrives.

Rothesay Lodge comprises 48 private, self-contained apartments considerately designed with the over 60s in mind. Owners enjoy ultimate peace of mind from a fitted camera entry system and a 24 hour emergency call system, and a dedicated Lodge Manager oversees the day-to-day running of the development.
