Leatherhead pupils support RSPB Big Birdwatch with Churchill Retirement Living

Children from Leatherhead Trinity School visited Churchill Retirement Living’s Emmeline Lodge to take part in this year’s RSPB Big Birdwatch.

Pupils joined forces with retired Owners from the Lodge to turn their eyes to the skies and count their feathered friends visiting the development’s landscaped garden.

The visit was organised by Churchill Retirement Living to coincide with the RSPB’s Big Birdwatch event, which takes place from 28-30 January. The annual survey aims to provide a vital snapshot of the country’s nature by asking members of the public to record the different bird species visiting their gardens and local green spaces, and most importantly, discover if any in particular are thriving or declining in numbers.

Anne Scherrer, Regional Marketing Manager at Churchill Retirement Living, said: “It is always wonderful to see the generations come together and we are pleased to have built a nice community link with Leatherhead Trinity School. The children were absolutely fantastic. We hope that by taking part in the Big Birdwatch it will inspire them to go out and find out what wildlife they have nesting in their own back gardens.”

Barbara Sheppard, assistant headteacher at Leatherhead Trinity School, said: “We were grateful to Churchill Retirement Living for organising the visit. The children were very excited to see what wildlife they could spot and it was a wonderful opportunity for the children to work with the local community and help contribute to the survey.”

Emmeline Lodge is a stylish collection of 38 one and two bedroom privately-owned retirement apartments designed for the over 60s. A Lodge Manager oversees the running of the development, and there is an Owners’ Lounge which can be used as a place to enjoy a catch up with like-minded neighbours, or for holding events, as well as this there is a Guest Suite for visitors.

The development is set in landscaped grounds in a central location, just a short distance from public transport links, shops and all the local amenities on offer in Leatherhead.
