Local ladies knit woolly wonders for neonatal ward

A group of ladies from Churchill Retirement Living’s Caterham Lodge in Caterham and Greenacres Lodge in Warlingham have been busy knitting treats for newborn babies at a local hospital.

The ladies have formed a weekly Knit and Natter Group at their respective Lodge’s where they meet in the Owners’ Lounge to chat and knit woolly supplies to donate to the SASH Neonatal Unit at East Surrey Hospital.

The group at Caterham Lodge was first set-up by Lodge Manager Kim Rankin, who wanted to lend her support to the local hospital, and was quickly followed by the ladies at Greenacres Lodge too. So far, the ladies have knitted blankets and clothes, which have been donated to the ward for newborns to wear.

Kim said: “The ladies find it so rewarding to come together and knit. We formed our Knit and Natter Group a few months ago and our Owners have had fun spending a morning doing something charitable for the little babies at the hospital, as well as catching up with each other at the same time. It has also proven really useful for helping to ease some of the ladies’ arthritis too!”

Owner Margaret Cooper, who lives at Caterham Lodge, said: “It’s lovely to sit and have a natter with all of my new friends, have a cup of tea and learn a new skill, while helping tiny newborn babies!”
