Children from Waltham Holy Cross Primary School visited Churchill Retirement Living’s King Harold Lodge in Waltham Abbey to share stories with Owners as part of National Storytelling Week.
Pupils from Years 4, 5 and 6 were invited to join Owners at the Lodge for a VE Day themed afternoon where they dressed up and shared Second World War inspired stories that they had written.
Mrs Mooney, headteacher at Waltham Holy Cross Primary School, said: “We were thrilled to get the invitation from King Harold Lodge to join them for the afternoon and take part in National Storytelling Week. The children enjoyed dressing up and chatting with the Owners – it’s great for them to experience working with people from different generations and they learnt a lot from the Owners about life during wartime.”
Yvette Christy, regional marketing executive at Churchill Retirement Living, said: “It was wonderful to get the children and Owners together for something everyone could enjoy. Our Owners loved having the children visit and listening to them read, as well as sharing their own stories from childhood.”
King Harold Lodge, located on Broomstick Hall Road, comprises 28 private, self-contained apartments that are specially designed for retired Owners, with features such as a video-entry system, lift to all floors, a 24 hour care and support system, and a Lodge Manager.
Communal facilities include an Owners’ Lounge, Guest Suite, laundry room and landscaped gardens. Like all Churchill Retirement Living Developments, the location has been chosen for convenience and is within easy walking distance of the wide selection of shops and amenities of Waltham Abbey town centre and has good public transport links.
