Owners settle into life at new retirement development

The Lodge Manager at Churchill Retirement Living’s Emmeline Lodge in Leatherhead has been offering a warm welcome to the first new Owners moving into the development.

Yvonne Robertson has been helping the new Owners settle into the age-exclusive development, on Kingston Avenue, as a thriving new community starts to take shape.

Yvonne, who oversees the day to day running of the development, said: “Every day at the Lodge is different, which I thoroughly enjoy. I’m often answering queries or problem solving for our existing Owners, and if someone new is moving in, making sure they have everything they need and are settling in well. We have a wonderful sense of community at Emmeline Lodge and a lot of active Owners so there is always something going on.”

Angela Allanson was one of the first new Owners to move in. She said: “I lived in Bookham in a beautiful old cottage that was built in 1546, but was beginning to find that I was continually spending a lot of money on the upkeep of it. The fact that I was able to bring my dog Tilly to live here at the Lodge with me was a major factor when I bought the apartment, as a lot of similar developments don’t allow pets.

"We have both settled in well and everyone has been very friendly. I enjoy the independence that the Lodge offers, as well as the regular events that are organised in the Owners’ Lounge by our Lodge Manager, Yvonne. We’re taking part in a cocktail making class soon, which I’m looking forward to."

94-year old Bob Booker moved into his new apartment six weeks ago. He added: “I lived close to the development in a three-bedroom house when I decided it was time to downsize. I had a large garden with a fish pond at the house, which I found really hard to leave, but my new one-bedroom apartment is perfect for what I needed. I used Churchill’s Home Exchange service, which was a very speedy process and made my move so much easier.”

Emmeline Lodge is a collection of 38 purpose-built, privately-owned, retirement apartments for the over 60s. Each of the Churchill Retirement Living apartments have spacious rooms throughout and are an ideal combination of design and functionality. The fully fitted, stylish kitchens include a built in fridge and freezer, hob and an oven, which is located at an easy-reach height.

All of the properties benefit from illuminated light switches for added convenience. Owners also enjoy ultimate peace of mind from a fitted camera entry system, for the highest level of security, and a 24 hour emergency call system.

With less to worry about, Owners have more time to do the things they enjoy, including taking advantage of the host of other benefits which are on offer, such as: having family or friends to stay in the development’s well-appointed Guest Suite, enjoying a chat with neighbours, or attending one of the many events in the Owners’ Lounge.
